This is what Robert did during his first soccer game. He the first 5 minutes fighting about having shin guards on. Once they were on, he spent the next 10 minutes refusing to have his shoes on. Even after they were both on Robert wouldn't play. The day was pretty cold and we were at a lost on how to encourage him. He had practice that Thursday and did just fine, so this was a surprise to us.
Then due to weather issues (very strong wind), there was no practice the following week. For the first half of the game, Robert was on the time out bench with Nathan. Then he spent the second half of the game holding my hand on the field.
It's his turn to kick the ball in, and still had to hold my hand.
All around the field, I was there probably getting into people's way instead of helping Robert learn how to be independent.
Oh well! It got better in the following games.

When Robert gets back into soccer let me know so we can get our kids in there too.
